Celebrating 100 Years of a Classic Song

Recently I submitted my cover of “This Land is Your Land” to a project sponsored by American Masters and PBS.  This old Woody Guthrie tune is being celebrated with this interactive documentary for 100 years of inspiring people across the world.

Like many, I grew up with this song.  My Dad would play it on his guitar at home, at church gatherings, and my Mom would join in with her mountain dulcimer.  It was one of my earlier musical influences and every time I sing it I think of home.

This song is a song about peace, about equality and unity, but for me it’s also about the very land it references.  So, when I decided to record this song, I wrote a few extra verses at the end.  I, for one, would like to see the land that was made for you and me remain, healthy and beautiful, for those coming after us.

So, please check out my video; like, tweet, and share; and let’s spread the message that this land was (indeed) made for you and me!

I encourage anyone who has grown up with this song to submit your own version to the project!  Visit the website to learn how.
